The Map: Short Film - Release Date Delay

Youre going to hear it from me. No one else. Im saying it. The film is not ready. I have seriously underestimated the amount of moving parts a film takes. No wonder most people give up on this shit! But lucky for me I am not most people.

So lets take it back to the start… How did this crazy fuckin idea get going? How did it gain so much steam that i’m losing sleep over it? How?! Well my friends like most things that end up kicking you in the face its always starts with the best intentions. I wanted to create a short movie style scene for my music video, kind of recreating the “pursuit of happiness” movie scene. So I told Muds to meet me up in the morning, we clipped on a couple of lav mics and we filmed myself walking with my son Baby Mickey down the street with no script or real direction. After getting what looked to be some dope content, Muds and I parted ways with Baby Mic as we continued to venture into Boyle Heights hitting familiar landmarks like Mariachi Plaza. That is when we filmed the now infamous scene of me walking down Boyle Ave with the city perfectly placed behind.

A few days later Muds send me a few preview clips of what we captured and I was blown away but how good it looked and sounded. I knew this was powerful content. Its a crazy feeling having a piece of art in your collection that you know the moment you share it.

I didnt share it. For days. And then when I did finally share it, I decided to add this: The Map Mini Movie coming soon…

and the flood gates were opened. Everyone foo I knew has asked me about my movie. What kind of crazy shit is this?! A few weeks later I meet a gentleman by the name of Henry Priest and I begin to tell him about my music and plans for the future and I mention the movie im “working on” and Henry says “ thats cool, let me see it, ill put it in my film festival” little did I know Henry is the co-founder of both the Chicano Film Fest & The DTLA Film fest !

So after meeting Mr Priest, i call Muds and say “we really need to finish this fuckin movie”

Which brings me to today. We have filmed all scenes, we only need to capture simple B Roll of Boyle Heights from distant angles to capture our morning montage. The movie is already in editing and the music videos that will be intertwined in the film are all but exported. Its an exciting time to be alive.
